<title>Florence Bachman [06/28/1925 - 02/18/2012] </title>

<description><![CDATA[<img src="http://boekefuneralhomes.com/components/comObituaries/obituarythumbnails/38_115489.jpg" alt="Florence Bachman" />Florence Amelia (Beasley) Bachman, the daughter of Floyd and Jenny Beasley, was born June 28, 1925 at Lawn Hill, IA.  She was the second of three daughters.  She was raised on the farm in Lawn Hill and graduated from New Providence High School in 1942. After graduating, she rode the train to Cedar Rapids to work at Collins Radio assembling parts.
On January 16, 1944 she was united in marriage to Adrian Bachman at New Providence, IA.  They spent most of their life farming outside of Hubbard before moving into town in 1959.  She owned and managed Flossie’s Café from 1966 to 1977 where she became well known for her potato salad, pies, and home cooked meals.  She continued her cooking skills for special events at the Hubbard Golf Club and for the Legion Café.
In 1981, Adrian and Flossie retired and moved to Barefoot Bay, Florida.  In 1985 they returned to IA., living in Marshalltown.  Flossie was a faithful caregiver to Adrian during his fight with Multiple Sclerosis until his passing in 1995.
Flossie lived in her own home in Marshalltown until 2007, when she moved to Southridge Nursing &amp; Rehabilitation Center in Marshalltown.  She resided there until death came to her on February 18, 2012, while surrounded by her family.  The family would like to thank the staff at Southridge Nursing &amp; Rehabilitation Center for their loving care through her later years of life and Care Initiatives Hospice during her last few weeks. 
Flossie became a member of the United Church of Christ in Hubbard, IA through the right of Confirmation in 1948.  While living in Marshalltown, she attended New Hope Christian Church. She was a past member of Eastern Stars and a member of the American Legion Auxiliary for over 65 years.  She loved and cherished her family and will dearly be missed by them.
Those remaining to cherish her memory are her four children, Dennis (Deanna) of  Marshalltown, IA.  Robert (Theresa) of Marshalltown,IA, Pam Stolee (Marcus) of Radcliffe,IA and Donna (Christina) of Minneapolis, MN.; 10 grandchildren; 15 great grandchildren; one sister Reba Hutchens of Des Moines; one Aunt Edna Knavel; and a host of family and friends.
Flossie was preceded in death by her parents, husband, one sister, an infant grandson and an infant granddaughter.

<description><![CDATA[<img src="http://boekefuneralhomes.com/components/comObituaries/obituarythumbnails/38_115386.jpg" alt="Ronald Brinkmeyer" />Ron Brinkmeyer, age 69, of Hubbard died Friday, Feb. 17, 2012, at Ellsworth Municipal Hospital in Iowa Falls.

Ronald Fredrick Brinkmeyer was born October 18, 1942, the son of Frederick “Fritz” and Yvonne (Fasse) Brinkmeyer.  He was baptized and confirmed in the Zion United Church of Christ in Hubbard. 
 
After graduating from Hubbard High School in 1960, he attended Ellsworth Jr. College in Iowa Falls. In September 1964, he enlisted in the Iowa Army National Guard taking his training at Fort Jackson, SC. After returning from service, Ron went into a farming partnership with his father. 

Ron retired from farming and moved to the Gustav Brinkmeyer homestead and went to work for Pella Windows in Story City.

Ron was a member of the Zion United Church of Christ and served on the Farmer Cooperative Board of Directors.  Ron was proud to have served as Adjutant for both Hardin County and Hubbard American Legion Post #4. He was always willing to assist in recruiting new Legion members and held his position proudly. 

Ron passed away at Ellsworth Municipal Hospital in Iowa Falls on Friday, February 17, 2012.

Those thankful for having shared his life include his brother Marc and his wife Vicki of Sandpoint, ID; two nephews Todd and Bryan;  one great-niece Maxie;  three uncles Francis of Rock Island, IL, Dennis of Windsor Heights, IA and Gary of Austin, TX;  and special friend Sharon Kissinger of Hubbard; along with many other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, “Fritz” and Yvonne Brinkmeyer and nephew Gregg Brinkmeyer.

Ron, like his father, considered himself most fortunate and uniquely blessed for sharing his heritage, the many friends, relatives and the beautiful way of life in rural America.

<description><![CDATA[<img src="http://boekefuneralhomes.com/components/comObituaries/obituarythumbnails/38_114850.jpg" alt="Roy Engel" />Roy I. Engel was born on November 18, 1923 on the family farm east of Radcliffe, Iowa to German immigrants Eberhard and Elizabeth (Landau) Engel. He was the youngest of four children. He attended Salem Evangelical United Brethren Church in Hubbard and began his public education at the McCoy Country School, being taught by his oldest sister, Ida. Roy received the Award of Honor Diploma in 1936 from the County Superintendent of Schools for having the highest class average in Hardin County. Roy went on to graduate with the class of 1940 from Radcliffe High School. 
On January 30, 1944 he was united in marriage to Mildred L. Northrup at the Berlin Community Church near Eldora by the Reverend J. H. Engel, Roy’s uncle. Roy and Mildred lived together on the family farm near Radcliffe for 64 years where they raised four children. Roy enjoyed farming and could fix about any piece of broken down machinery or build whatever he needed. He farmed and did custom harvesting for 45 years, but that’s not all he did. After his crops were hailed out in 1956, he enrolled in a correspondence course and received a degree in Accounting through AIB in Des Moines. He focused on income tax preparation and became employed during the winter months at the Alden State Bank. In 1977 he and Mildred established their own successful accounting and tax office in Alden, specializing in farmers of course!  Roy and Mildred also enjoyed traveling, and enjoyed camping as members of the We-Wan-To-Go Chapter of Winnebago Itasca Travelers. They retired from “the office” after 35 years but Roy continued to be involved in the farming operation. He moved for the first time in his life to their new home in Eldora in February 2008. He joined Mildred at the Eldora Nursing and Rehab Center in November 2010.
Roy was a charter member of Faith Evangelical Church, Radcliffe, when the church was organized in 1969. He served on the building committee as well as serving in all the various offices of the church. He lived a life of faith which was passed down to him through his ancestors, and was devoted to studying the Bible and history books to understand God’s word. In his retirement years Roy joined the ICOCC (International Coalition of Covenant Congregations) traveling to their meetings and developing a lending library of video tapes of some world renowned pastors. 
Those remaining to cherish his memory and continue his legacy include his wife Mildred, Eldora; one daughter, Teresa Shoemaker and her husband Roger of Webster, South Dakota; three sons, Thomas and his wife Linda of Radcliffe, Iowa; Terry of Ames, Iowa; and Timothy and his wife Sherri of Story City, Iowa; six grandchildren, Aaron (Kris) Whitney, Amber (Will) Fish, Elizabeth Engel, Evan (Kristen) Engel, Jacob Engel, and Sarah Engel; seven great-grandchildren, Triston, Taylor and Tyler Whitney, Carvin and Dannica Fish, and Charlotte and Eleanor Engel; three step-grandsons; and nine step great-grandchildren; along with other relatives and friends.
Roy was preceded in death by his parents and siblings Ida Durbin, Alice Feind, and Edwin Engel.

<title>Lowell Kulow [03/22/1923 - 01/09/2012] </title>

<description><![CDATA[<img src="http://boekefuneralhomes.com/components/comObituaries/obituarythumbnails/38_112233.jpg" alt="Lowell Kulow" />Lowell died at his home in Hubbard, IA.
Lowell Kulow joined his parents Carl and Amanda (Broderson) Kulow on March 22, 1923, on a farm northwest of Hubbard. He was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran church.
He received his first eight years of education at Dancer Tipton No. 4 rural school. In 1941 he graduated with honors from Hubbard High School. During those years he participated in numerous vocal and instrumental groups. 
In February 1945 he joined the Army, spending a short time in the Philippines processing recruits for overseas assignment and was discharged in 1946. His trip to Japan was delayed by a horrific typhoon, which prevented their arrival on schedule, and the next 11 months were spent processing men for their return to the States. He also played the trombone in the Army Dance Band and baritone in the Army Marching Band, the 25th Division, and 4th Infantry bands. After the war was declared over, he was assigned to participate in the clean-up of Hiroshima.
He was united in marriage to Lois Ann Meier on June 17, 1947, by Rev. Arthur Kruetzman. Their union was blessed with three children–Kaye, Keith and Kurt. Home was the family farm northwest of Hubbard, where he enjoyed all phases of farming–especially raising little pigs and calves.
Lowell was an active member of Zion United Church of Christ, serving on various committees and singing in the male quartet for 30 plus years. He was a member of the Hubbard Lions Club and American Legion for 62 plus years.
In 1981 a new home was built in Hubbard. He became skilled at woodworking and created numerous pieces made from the walnut trees that grew on his farm. He continued to enjoy semi-retirement, farming with his son, Kurt, until recent years, leaving the farm to the third generation. 
Lowell is survived by his wife Lois of 64 years, three children (Kaye, Keith and Kurt), six grandchildren (Jeffrey, Stacey, Justin, Shera, Prescott and Aaron), along with other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers Wayne and Eugene and two nephews.

<description><![CDATA[<img src="http://boekefuneralhomes.com/components/comObituaries/obituarythumbnails/38_112235.jpg" alt="Carrie Langholz" />Carrie A. (Reisetter) Langholz, of Sun City, Arizona, passed onto her heavenly home on January 4, 2012.

Carrie is survived by the love of her life, her college sweetheart, Ervin. She was the loving mother of their four children, David (Melissa), John (Karin), Paul (Laurel), and Mark (Lori). Carrie has been blessed with twelve grandchildren. Carrie is preceded in death by her brother Elden, and her parents, Edward and Anna.

Carrie was born in Allison, Iowa in 1936 where she was baptized and confirmed. She received her B.A. in sociology (social work) from Wartburg College in Waverly, IA.

Carrie was united in Holy Matrimony to Ervin in 1957. She has been his devoted wife for 54 years. Carrie was a wonderful Christian example of what a wife and mother should be. 

Carrie will always be remembered as having a true servant heart. She was at Ervin&#039;s side over a lifetime of ministry at five churches, serving as his faithful partner - Immanuel Lutheran Church (Lodgepole, NE), American Lutheran Church (Kankakee, IL), Living Christ Lutheran Church (Loves Park, IL), St. Paul&#039;s Lutheran Church (Gifford, IL), American Lutheran Church (Sun City, AZ). 

Carrie was blessed with many talents, which she shared cheerfully. She was a gifted leader, directing the choir at Immanuel Lutheran as well as starting the Junior Choir at American Lutheran in Kankakee. Carrie formed a licensed preschool at Living Christ Lutheran. She was program director for Stephens Ministry at American Lutheran in Sun City and was president of the church&#039;s ALCW. She was a gifted musician, playing the flute in the college orchestra, playing both the organ and piano for church services, singing in the various church choirs and participating in the American Lutheran Church Bell Choir. She passed on her love for music to her family, with every child and grandchild having learned to play at least one instrument. Carrie was a gifted and tireless volunteer, serving on multiple church committees. She was involved in the Lutheran Thrift Shop in Sun City. Carrie was a gifted educator, participating in as well as leading many Bible studies. She loved teaching piano to her students .

Carrie was a humble and kind woman of strong values shaped by her faith in God, and a love of her family and friends. She was blessed with gifts of generosity and love. Her warm and inviting personality caused immediate connection with those she met. In word and deed throughout her life, Carrie espoused the Christian faith she held so dear. She had no greater joy than seeing her children and grandchildren embrace the Christian faith, making it their own, a legacy we will always cherish.

<description><![CDATA[<img src="http://boekefuneralhomes.com/components/comObituaries/obituarythumbnails/38_112235.jpg" alt="Carrie Langholz" />Arnold Frederick Boeke was born May 7, 1925 in Hubbard, Iowa, son of Will and Augusta (Denker) Boeke.  Arnold was raised in Hubbard, where he attended school and graduated in 1943. Arnold served in the Army anti-tank company, 341st infantry in both the European and Pacific fronts during WWII (Dec. 1943-June 1946).  He married Mildred Marian Nicholas on July 26, 1946 in Union, Iowa.  They lived briefly in Dows, Iowa, and later moved to his dad’s farm southeast of Hubbard, where they farmed until January 1960.  They moved into Hubbard and Arnold worked briefly for his brother at International Harvester.  He then worked as an insurance agent in Hubbard and also sold real estate in Iowa Falls where they moved in 1967. The next year they bought the H&amp;R Block franchise in Kearney, Nebraska.  They retired to The Villages, Florida in 1987.

	He was a member of the American Legion.  He was confirmed into the Zion Evangelical Church at Hubbard in 1939 and was a member of the United Methodist Church in Kearney, Nebraska.

	After retiring, he remained active at golf and softball.  He also enjoyed traveling and having family visit him in Florida.  After the death of his wife Marian in 2001, he married Christine Seiler in April 2005.  

	Arnold is survived by his two sons, Dr. Gary Boeke and wife Ramona of Sartell, MN and Dale L. Boeke and wife Gayle of Waukee, Iowa, five grandchildren – Kija (Boeke) Robberstad, Dion Boeke, Kory Boeke, Carissa (Boeke) Moreland, and Janine (Boeke) Wasnock; and seven great grandchildren – Julia, Lauryn and Madeline Robberstad;  Torin, Sawyer, Sequoia Boeke; Lily Wasnock; brother Melvin of Hubbard and sister Margaret Stole of Prairie Farm, WI and his wife Christine.

	He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Marian, brothers Harvey, Wilbur, and Erwin and sister Hildegard Butler.

<description><![CDATA[<img src="http://boekefuneralhomes.com/components/comObituaries/obituarythumbnails/38_110733.jpg" alt="Doug Dubberke" />        Douglas, age 62, of Hubbard, IA, died at Israel Family Hospice House in Ames, IA.
        Douglas Ray Dubberke was born on June 17, 1949 at the Eldora Hospital.  He was the eldest of five children born to Gilbert and Elva (Piel) Dubberke.
	He received his education by attending the Hubbard Community School where he graduated with the Class of 1968.  He then attended the Burnell Cosmetology School in Ames.
	He owned and operated Doug’s Beauty Salon in Hubbard for many years.  In later years, he also worked fixing hair for the residents of the Hubbard Care Center.
	On November 13, 1971, he was married to Sharon Roling.  They had three children together but later divorced.  Doug was united in marriage to Judy Rieks on September 12, 1981, at St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church.
	Doug was active in 4-H when he was young, enjoyed showing horses for many years and later enjoyed trail riding, camping and fishing.  He was involved with the Pony Express and belonged to several saddle clubs.
	Death came to Doug on Wednesday, December 21, 2011 at the Israel Family Hospice House in Ames following a tough battle with cancer.
	Those remaining to cherish his memory include his wife Judy of Hubbard; two daughters Kari (Justin) Hornberg of Green Mountain and Kami (David) Perry of Zearing; one son Brent of Alden; four step-children Dean (Deborah) Rieks of Melbourne, David (Darcy) Rieks of Ames, Dennis (Rose) Rieks of New Providence and Donna (Ray) Smuck of Hubbard; fourteen grandchildren Lexie Dubberke and Jarrett Hornberg, Macenna and Carver Dubberke, Macy and Jake Perry, Justin Rieks, Jamie Walton , Levi and Dru Rieks, Leland and Ashley Rieks, Steph (Jesse) VanderWal and Dani Smuck and fiancé Matt Baker; one brother Randy (Deb) Dubberke of Hubbard; two sisters Shelly (Jon) Peterson of Ackley and Stacey Dubberke of Hubbard; along with many other relatives and friends.
	Doug was preceded in death by his parents and one brother David.

<description><![CDATA[<img src="http://boekefuneralhomes.com/components/comObituaries/obituarythumbnails/38_110410.jpg" alt="Leah Risetter Cooper " />Leah Risetter Cooper was born on November 8, 1921, in Concord Township south of Garden City, Iowa to Clara (Amdahl) and C. M. Pearson.

She received her education by attending Concord #8 Country School and graduated from McCallsburg High School.

Leah married Alan Risetter on December 2, 1940.  He preceded her in death in 1970. They moved to Big Spring, Texas in 1963, from Marshalltown, Iowa. Leah later married Claude Cooper in 1988, and he preceded her in death in 2001. She owned and operated the Desert Sands Motel and Restaurant. She later cooked at Brass Nail. Leah was best known for her cinnamon rolls.

She is survived by one daughter, Laura Averette of Big Spring, Texas, two sons, Stan Risetter and his wife Linda of Whitesboro, Texas and Mark Risetter and his wife Cheryl of Lewisville, Texas; two sisters, Evelyn Thompson and her husband Don of Phoenix, Arizona and Betty Vogt of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; one brother, Carrol Pearson and his wife Pauline of Roland, Iowa; nine grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren and one great great-grandson.

In addition to her parents and husbands, she was preceded in death by one daughter Carmen Rider, one brother Leslie Pearson and one sister Arlotte Skartvedt.

<description><![CDATA[<img src="http://boekefuneralhomes.com/components/comObituaries/obituarythumbnails/38_109119.jpg" alt="Georgia Balvanz" />Georgia, age 68, of Hubbard, IA, died on Monday at Israel Family Hospice House in Ames, IA.

Georgia (Bakas) Balvanz was born on March 23, 1943 in Fort Dodge, Iowa.  She was eldest of six children born to Nick and Wanda (Grisham) Bakas.

Her family moved to Iowa Falls when she was an infant.  She attended school in Iowa Falls and later in life attended Ellsworth Community College in Iowa Falls to become a Registered Nurse.

On October 27, 1962, she was united in marriage to Eldon Balvanz on the family farm north of Hubbard.  After their marriage, they moved into a home on the south side of Hubbard where she remained her entire life.

She raised three daughters, kept the books for Balvanz Trucking, was a member of the Hubbard Ambulance, worked as a Homemaker Health Aide, and then worked as a nurse at the Mary Greeley Medical Center in Ames.

She was member of St. John’s Lutheran Church in Hubbard.

Death came to Georgia on Monday, November 28, 2011 at the Israel Family Hospice House in Ames, IA.

Those remaining to cherish her memory include, Heidi and her husband Eric Rottink of Waverly and their children Cassie and Matthew,  Amanda Balvanz and Clay Hinderaker of Radcliffe, and their son Finnigan, and Sarah and her husband Chuck Raska of Radcliffe, and their children Tori and Coy;  two sisters Kanella Bakas of West Des Moines and Linda (Gary) Baker of Iowa City; one brother John Bakas of Colorado; sisters-in-law Velda (George) Stotser of Hubbard and Alana (Ron) McCleary of Lake of the Ozarks, MO; along with many other relatives and friends.

Georgia was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Eldon, one brother Kosta Bakas and one sister Nickoletta Bakas.
