Obituary for DelRina Kae Spindler

DelRina Kae Spindler, age 81, passed away on Wednesday, April 8, 2020, at the Hubbard Care Center of end stage Alzheimer’s Disease.

DelRina (Del) was born on December 8, 1938 on the family farm between Ellsworth and Radcliffe, Iowa to Olai and Ordina (Wang) Olson. She was the youngest of 7 children.

Del attended country school through 8th grade and graduated from Radcliffe Community High School with the class of 1957. She was employed for several years at Woodard Feed in Webster City and then also worked at Van Heusen in Story City.

On March 31, 1962, she was united in marriage to Ragene Spindler at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Radcliffe. Ragene and Del lived on a farm south of Radcliffe, where they farmed and raised their three boys, Dana, Rory and Scott. Del was the ideal farm wife making sure meals were brought to the field when needed, assisting with moving machinery around and taking care of all the book work. In 1993, Ragene and Del moved into town (Radcliffe) and made their home across from the Radcliffe Friendly Fairways where they enjoyed watching the golfers out their front window. In their retirement, they enjoyed several winters spent in Apache Junction, AZ with dear friends, old and new.

Del enjoyed the role of homemaker. She was a wonderful seamstress, making snowmobile suits for Ragene and the boys, sewing many of her own clothes and won several awards for outfits made for dolls when Security State Bank in Radcliffe held their annual Dress a Doll contest. Cooking and baking was also one of Del’s specialties. Her grandkids will definitely tell you she made the best dinner rolls, kringla, strawberry salad and macaroni and cheese. You could always count on finding her in the kitchen and never leaving her house hungry. Del also enjoyed bowling in her younger days. She won many trophies and appeared on the TV show “Let’s Go Bowling”. You could also be sure to find Del and Ragene taking to the dance floor at any social events they attended. She loved to dance and enjoyed music. She enjoyed attending the sporting activities the boys participated in growing up and was there as often as could be, cheering the grandkids on at their activities as well.

Del was loved by many, especially her 6 grandchildren who will cherish the many laughs shared, fun adventures taken and priceless memories made. Even during the difficult stages of Alzheimers we could always count on her humor, laugh and bright smile.

She is survived by her husband of 58 years, Ragene; sons, Dana (Tami) of Radcliffe, Rory (Kristin) of Hubbard, and Scott (Sarah) of Radcliffe; six grandchildren, Kaitlyn (Cody) and Brittany Spindler, Logan and Payton Spindler, Josh Spindler, and Tycin Barkema; sister, Romaine Hanson of Spirit Lake, IA, along with many nieces, nephews and dear friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, siblings, Verna James, Lavonne Reyes, Leo Olson, Wanda Rose and DeFlorin Olson.

In cooperation with the Governor's ruling a funeral service will not be held at this time. The family does plan to have a Celebration of Life at a later date.
