Obituary for Gary K. Hadley

Gary K. Hadley was born November 8, 1937 in Marshalltown, IA to Bernard and Noma Hadley of New Providence, IA. He grew up on the family farm enjoying the outdoors and livestock. He was a Boy Scout and 4-H member and enjoyed playing baseball and basketball in high school. Before school in the spring, he could be found earning money shearing sheep for local farmers. In his adult years he worked on a ranch in the Sandhills of Nebraska which reinforced his love of horses and cattle. He served in the Army for three years being stationed in Arlington, VA, Thule, Greenland and Yuma, AZ. After the service, he drove trucks, began farming and building his cattle herd. He was often seen driving through town with his horse “Ace” in the back of his pickup or his pickup parked at the local cafe while “Ace” waited patiently before heading home to work cattle. In the winters he satisfied his creative side by learning to tool leather making binder covers, wallets, belts and shoes. At the time of his death, Gary was living the life he loved, raising his purebred Angus cattle, helping neighbors work on their machinery, volunteering at the local sale barn, meeting friends for coffee and/or meals, or following Iowa State Cyclones basketball.
Gary passed away at his home in Osceola, IA on December 6, 2019. He is survived by a brother Neil (Alice) Hadley of Union, IA; a sister Karla (Robert) Holveck of Newberg, OR; a sister-in-law, Janet (Jay) Hadley of Story City, IA; a former wife, Sunny Hadley of Ft. Myers, FL; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother, Jay Hadley and an infant sister, Mary Amelia.
