Obituary for Martin L. Broer

Martin Broer, age 92, of Iowa Falls, Iowa, passed away on Monday, September 9, 2019 at Scenic Manor in Iowa Falls, Iowa.

Martin Louis Broer was born on October 30, 1926 near New Providence, IA. He was the son of Will and Martha (Rieks) Broer.
He was baptized and confirmed in the Zion Evangelical and Reformed Church in Hubbard. He taught Sunday school for many years and served on the church board. He loved to sing and was a member of the youth choir and later directed the church choir. He also sang tenor in a quartet and in the Scenic City Choir in Iowa Falls.
Martin attended the New Providence School in New Providence, IA. He played the baritone in the school band. He then attended Elmhurst Theological Seminary and Iowa State University.
On June 18, 1950, he was united in marriage to Jeanette Ann Kuhlman at the United Methodist Church in Grundy Center, IA. He farmed his entire life. Martin was a progressive farmer who took good care of the soil. He used contour farming with terraces, minimum tillage and tried to protect waterways.
He liked to quote Chaucer in Old English about Springtime and April breezes. He loved to read.
Martin was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Iowa Falls. He was also a Commissioner of the Soil Conservation Service more than 25 years.
Martin passed away on Monday, September 9, 2019 at the Scenic Manor in Iowa Falls.
Those remaining to cherish his memory include his wife Jeanette of Iowa Falls; sons Tim Broer of Iowa Falls, Marc Broer of Des Moines and Philip and his wife Kathy Broer of Iowa Falls; five grandchildren Karl Broer, Darrin Broer, Anna Broer-Weis and husband Ryan, Sarah Broer and Henry Broer; two great-grandchildren Olive and Sid Weis; sister Margaret Lindsey of Gardener, KS; along with several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Martin was preceded in death by his parents, sisters Miriam and Orpah and brothers Arnold and Billy.
Martin was a wonderful and loving husband, father and grandfather. He frequently entertained the grandchildren with songs in German and Nursery Rhymes.

Memorial contributions may be directed to the Soil & Water Conservation in Iowa Falls, Church World Service, Friends Committee on Legislation, Doctors Without Borders and Dementia.
