Obituary for Shirley Hilpipre

On Wednesday, November 4, 2020, Shirley June (Nicol) Hilpipre, loving wife and mother of four children, passed away peacefully at Iowa River Hospice at the age of 80.
She was born on June 14, 1940 in Wright County to Melvin and Alice (Rice) Nicol. She was dedicated to God on May 13, 1945 and baptized on June 27, 1948 at First Baptist Church of Eagle Grove. She graduated from Eagle Grove High School in 1958. Her first job out of high school was that of a telephone operator in Eagle Grove.
In 1957 she met Harold Hilpipre on a blind date. They shared the bond of the same birthday. They were married on their birthdays on June 14, 1959 at the First Baptist Church in Eagle Grove. They raised four children: Dennis, Denise, Teresa, and Catherine.
In 1978, Shirley became a Certified Nurse Assistant. Her compassionate spirit called her to be a caregiver at Ellsworth Municipal Hospital in Iowa Falls. She was admired for her dedication to her patients and to her profession. She retired after giving 30 years of service.
Shirley was very active and was often seen walking, riding a bicycle, or golf cart in her town of Hubbard. She was an avid bird watcher and often had her binoculars or bird book in hand. She was rarely seen without a smile on her face and a positive demeanor.
She will be missed by her husband of 61 years, Harold; children, Dennis (Mary) Hilpipre of Hubbard, Denise Chaplin of Hubbard, Teresa Roll of Hubbard, Catherine (Martin) Lettow of Niwot, CO; grandchildren, Taylor (Courtney) Roll, Brianna and Zachary Hilpipre, Gabriella,Grace, Julian Lettow; great grandchildren, Peyton, Lyla, Gemma Roll, Kora, Kaycee, Karlee Chaplin, Karsyn Hulme; sisters, Mary Moffitt and Rosalie Rollins; sisters in law, Carolyn (David) Miller and Patricia (Jake) Jacobson; extended family members; Jami (Grant) Jacobson and children, Shane, Reece, Luke, Brynn; and many other relatives and friends.
Shirley was preceded in death by her parents, Melvin and Alice; sister Mavis Rausch; loving in laws Edmund and Gertrude Hilpipre; grandson, Shane Chaplin.
It warms our hearts that she is reunited with her beloved grandson. We rejoice that her vision and memory have been restored in heaven.
